Crown lengthening treatment in Cameron Park, California, can be a nerve-wracking way to prevent and treat gum disease. However, it doesn’t have to be! If you know what to expect when you come in to visit with Dr. Sonny Afshar, then you will feel comfortable, relaxed, and prepared in the dental chair. When you come into our office, you can expect the following steps:

Step 1: Your dentist will first numb your tooth and surrounding gums with a local anesthetic. Doing so will help prevent pain and discomfort during your treatment.

Step 2: When you’re ready, your dentist will cut the gums and pull them away from the teeth. This will expose the roots of the teeth and the surrounding bone.

Step 3: Then, they will remove the necessary gum tissue from the mouth and some bone from the tooth roots if needed.  This will be done with the use of hand instruments and rotary instruments.

Step 4: Once enough of the tooth has been exposed, your dentist will deeply clean the area by irrigating it with sterile salt water.

Step 5: When the mouth is completely clean, your dentist will stitch the gums back together and cover the surgical site with a dressing called an intraoral.
